Corruption has been dominant in the society today. It has subjected many people to social, psychological economic and political conflict. In Kafira society corrupt people such as Chagaga, Mulili, Tumbo and Boss engage in corruptible deals subjecting many people to a lot of dehumanization. Chagaga employs extreme violence to sentence university protests. He brutally kills Adika.
In Doga's soliloquy he says...."only a handful of coins cost us a son". This shows that the authorities bribed Chagaga to assassinate Adika who had four bullet wounds. He goes to the extend of bribing Adika's spirit to appease him in death. Doga says,"..........cold,cold money ,No warmth,no life. What a strange way to appease the dead.."He has the audacity to pursue the dead man and no wonder Jusper kills him in cold blood, and when he confesses this act,he is stoned and left to die.
Mulili's corruptible nature subjects a lot of people to dehumanization since he has been receiving special favors from the Boss,he prohibits Doga and Nina from carrying out the Shaving ceremony, when the couple insists that it will carry on with the ceremony,he kills them and later confidently reminds the Boss how he had killed the couple. He also takes up the university tender which had been won by Kabito by having the Boss intervene in a corrupt manner. He later mud slings Kabito to the Boss and he is told by Boss to assassinate Kabito and to conceal this devious act.He does so hypocritically. His corrupt deals subject his victims to a lot of dehumanization.
Mr.Tumbo, a government official is quite corrupt and subjects people to a lot of dehumanization. He is charged with the responsibility of censuring a play for the Visiting head of state. He embezzles two thirds of money set aside for this task and only pays one third to Jusper and Regina. He jeopardizes the life of the boss and in this fiasco Mulili is killed in cold blood.
Boss is the head of Kafira Regime. He bribes villainous people such as Mulili who subjects the citizens to a lot of psychological torture. He also embezzles a lot of funds and makes the subjects to suffer in abject poverty. His amorous personality makes him almost deflower Regina and he imprisons his wife for complaining about the issue.
In a nutshell,Mulili, Chagaga.Tumbo and Boss engage in unscrupulous deals subjects the people to a lot of dehumanization.
