1) FOCUS OR SUSTAINED ATTENTION
Attention is continuous and maintained over time e.g. a goalkeeper waiting for penalty.
2) SELECTIVE ATTENTION
Is the ability to focus on a particular sensory input while filtering out others
3.DIVIDED ATTENTION
It is the ability to focus on more than one task at the same time.
The ability to perform tasks simultaneously depends on:
- Task similarity- Tasks which demand for similar input modalities, output modalities and compete for the same processing and cannot be performed simultaneously without interference
- Practice-It reduces destruction levels and improves on individuals performance in more than one task.
- Task difficulty-If two tasks are difficult then attention is greatly divided between the two tasks.
4.ALTERNATING ATTENTION
Is used to alternate back and front between activities
5.AUTOMATICITY ATTENTION
There are types;
- Automatic process
A performance is considered automatic if it occurs without the intention of the performer
It does not rise to conscious awareness
It does not interfere with other mental activities
- Controlled/conscious processing
A performance is considered controlled if it occurs with deliberate decisions
Processing is open to awareness
