Is a state of worry, tension and apprehension that is normal response to a perceived threat.
Anxiety can be useful in:
- helping us avoid dangerous situations
- make us alert
- give us motivation to deal with a problem

CAUSES OF ANXIETY
- Genetic factors
- can result from learning
- life threatening events
- life changing events
- drugs e.g. cocaine

COMPONENTS OF ANXIETY
- Subjective emotional component
- cognitive component
- physiological component
- behavioral responses
