-Inability to recall/recognize information that had been learnt in the past

Causes
- Forgetting may happen as a result of lack f enough cues at the time of attempted recall. - Passive decay - there is no interaction with the information that was learnt
- Systematic distortion of memory - may come due to interference during learning .
- Consolidation theory - it states that nervous system after learning needs time to consolidate after learning.
- Mental set - we forget easily if we were psychologically prepared to interact with the information.
- Similarity of material learnt
- Similarity of method used to present the material
- The age of the learner - young children are not able to do the same thing for a long time.
- Intelligence - people with low IQ will not grasp the information faster.
- Over learning without spacing
- Loss of interest.
- Doubt about validity of the material learnt.
