An ecological niche is a description of all the physical, chemical, and biological factors that a species needs to survive, stay healthy, and reproduce in an ecosystem i.e. the role of an organism in an ecosystem. This includes habitat niche (where it lives), food niche, and reproductive niche, physical and chemical niche.

The niche of an organism can be classified as a specialized or generalized, depending primarily on its major sources of food, the extent of its habitat, and the degree of tolerance it has to temperature and other physical and chemical factors.
Species of plants and animals that can tolerate only a narrow range of climatic and other environmental conditions and feed on a limited number of different plants or animals are said to have a specialized niche. Species with a generalist niche are very adaptable, can live on much of the terrestrial portion of the planet, eat a wide variety of foods, tolerate a wide range of environmental conditions, and are usually in much less danger of extinction e.g. flies, cockroaches, mice, rats and human beings
among other.
