i. Zoological gardens- (captive breeding). - include, zoos, aquaria. Preserve the genetic stocks for reintroduction to the wild when conditions permit, research and education.

ii. Botanical gardens; gardens and arboreta established to hold plants. For research, documentation of local flora, maintaining and preserving samples of rare or endangered species.

iii. Seed banks-storage of conservation material in the form of seeds is monitored as regards viability through germination tests and purity analysis.

iv. Protected Areas; in-situ conservation include, national parks, nature reserves, wildlife sanctuaries
