1.Rates- it is a levy imposed by the local authority on persons owning land and buildings in a local authority. The amount payable is based on the value given to the property
2.Cess- it is a levy imposed by the local authority on produce sold in a market to be found in a local authority. It is levied on traders of such goods as building materials and agricultural products.
3.Local authority service charge- it was a levy imposed on resident individuals above 18years who had a source of income. It was also paid by government, NGOs etc. the levy was withdrawn at the beginning of 2001.
