The inter-tropical convergence zone is the area encircling earth near the equator, the sailors refer to it as doldrums. The intense heating at the equator causes air to rise and wind to be sucked in from the tropics or what we call trade winds and this causes: 1. shifting of winds pattern which result to moving thermal energy and moisture to different parts of Eastern Africa.
.slowing of ocean currents and even stopping ocean currents.
.some parts of eastern Africa become wetter than others.
.It makes it hard for aircraft to fly over and ship to sail and that's why the sailors refer to it as doldrums.
.It causes thunderstorm and lightening and that's why in some part of Eastern Africa we have rain falling in the afternoon accompanied by thunderstorm.
