(ii) Increase surface area for absorption of digested food;
Acc. site for absorption of food
(iii) X – Lymphatic vessel
Y – Blood capillary
(iv) – Have thin epithelia to facilitate faster absorption of digested food.
- Have numerous blood capillaries to increase surface area for transport of glucose and amino
acids;
- Have lacteals/lymphatic vessels for absorption and transportation of fatty acids and glycerol;
- Have microvilli for further increase in surface area for absorption of digested food;
- Have goblet cells which secrete mucus to lubricate villi and prevent auto digestion of intestinal wall by enzymes.
- Are numerous and fingerlike to increase surface area for absorption.
