- It can cause ecological imbalance as animals migrate to other areas where there is no interference.
- There is a lot of noise pollution in the generating plant which can be harmful to workers
- It can lead to land subsidence as a result of withdrawal of fluids from the underground
- Gases such as sulphur dioxide, ammonia, methane and hydrogen sulphide are released together with the steam and may be harmful to the environment and health hazard to the people living around the plant.
- It can lead to destruction of vegetation as it is being cleared to provide room for the power plant and the tapping of the geysers. Some plants can become extinct.
