1. Too top-down oriented and does not allow enough farmer participation in programme planning. It starts with ready made packaged innovations to be disseminated into the socio- economic context of farms, without prior understanding of the farmers and the nature of their farms.
2. It is too labor intensive, requiring a large number of extension workers, which a country may not be able to afford.
3. Too rigid in terms of the fortnightly schedule, which is not varied even during the slack seasons.
4. There still remains a lack of SMSs in nearly all third world countries. Linkage to research is weak, resulting in poor technical training and support.
5. Has not adequately addressed problems of the resource-poor farmers. It has tended to concentrate on the most progressive farmers (as C.F.s) with the hope that recommendations passed will trickle down to follower farmers. This has not happened effectively.
6. Fails to carry out final testing of research technologies in different agro-ecological zones with diverse farmers’ circumstances.
