According to Darwin, organisms compete for resources as well as survival. The well adapted one survives while the less adapted dies .This is well described as survival for the fittest. Those that survive grow to adulthood and gives rise to the next generation. Their genetic characteristics persist resulting to gradual change and making it well adapted to the environment.
