(i) Fill two test-tubes one third full with (a) water and (b) methylated spirits. To each testtube
add 1 g sodium chloride, attach a stopper and shake. Sodium chloride dissolves readily
in water but not so readily in methylated spirits.
(ii) Fill two test-tubes one third full with (a) 88g water and (b) a solution of 1 g potassium
iodide in 5 mL water. To each test-tube add iodine crystals, attach a stopper and shake.
