The physiological actions of glucagon are opposite to those of insulin. Most of the effects of glucagon are centered in the liver.

It decreases glycogen synthesis, increases glycogenolysis and also increases gluconeogenesis.

The net result is an increase in concentrations of glucose in blood.

Glucagon secretion is regulated by plasma glucose concentration. Decreased glucose concentration stimulates glucagon synthesis and release.

This is called negative feedback mechanism
