Erosion of national prestige: the affected countries constantly depend on foreign aid and grants. Over-dependence on outside intervention makes a country not stand on its own leading to neocolonialism.

Political influence: people in countries with food shortage are bound to suffer if their governments use food aid as a tool against those who do not support them. Democratic rights will be curtailed such as election of leaders.

Refugees’ problem: there is bound to be movement of people from regions that are experiencing food problems. They become refugees in neighboring countries where the experience the problem of misplaced people. They also cause problems to the people they live among such as pollution, insecurity and environmental degradation.

Spread of diseases: some of the diseases that break out and spread are those that are of nutritional nature. The desperation may also lead to indulgence in immoral practices such as prostitution leading to diseases such as HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases
