• Setting up standards- The Kenya Bureau of Standards [KEBS] sets up quality standards and ensures that commodities meet those standards.it ensures that commodities are examined and tested before being sold.
• Weights and measures act- the government ensures that the commodities used for weighting and measuring are accurate and correct. This is done through regular checking and adjusting the machines.
• License- business people and manufacturers require a license in order to operate. This ensures that there is control on the type of business being carried out.
• Foods and Drugs Act-This ensures that producers and traders do not include harmful substances in their product which may harm consumer’s health. Labels and packages used in food, drugs and medicine should show the ingredients used in making the commodity.
• Trade description act-ensures that producers and traders do not cheat consumers by providing false description on the products they offer.
