The driving wheel covers a distance 2pR in one revolution while the driven wheel covers a distance 2pr in one revolution. If the driving wheel makes one revolution, the driven wheel makes 2pR/2pr (R/r) revolutions.

Therefore, the velocity ratio of a pulley belt is the ratio of the radius of the driven (load) wheel to the radius of the driving (effort) wheel.
