(i) Christians should desire for higher gifts like love but should not forbid the gifts of prophecy and tongues.

(ii) Prophecy leads to the spiritual growth of the Church while tongues can only be beneficial to the Church if an interpreter is found to reveal God's will.

(iii) Tongues are used for addressing God and so the person who speaks in tongues only benefit himself/ herself spiritually whereas, a prophet's message may touch a sinner who may repent and turn to God.

(iv) Speaking in tongues sounds unintelligible to those who are unable to interpret the tongues.
However, prophecy is intelligible preaching which benefits other Christians by either correcting and strengthening their faith.
