a) Oral tradition: this is information that is acquired by word of mouth and passed from one generation to another. These are folktales, proverbs, songs and other means. The main source of oral tradition are village elders, court workers and jesters. It is useful in non-literate sources
b) Linguistics: this is the scientific study of language and part of culture. It can be studied in an attempt to discover what its form, content, grammar and vocabulary can tell us about the historical language of the user of the language
c) Anthropology: this is the study of people’s origin, development, customs and beliefs. They are concerned with social organization in relation to customs, cultural values, institutions, forms of governments, system of marriage, inheritance and religious activities, farming, cattle raising, fishing and technology
d) Archaeology: this is the study of material remains from past human life and culture. This include fossils, pottery, metal objects, wooden implements, graves and plant and animal remains. The archaeologists has to locate an archaeological site where people then dig remains which are then studied
