TRADITION APPROACH THEORY

Scientific management theory – was also referred to as job analysis theory because its main job is to analyze the duty of a worker. It proposes that a rationally planned and executed organization be developed to create efficient work performance and increase production. Fredrick Taylor felt that the best way to improve output was to improve the methods used by workers. Management was to be separated from human affairs or emotions. Its focus was on the needs of the organization and not the needs of the workers.

Administrative theory/ functional approach – Henry Fuyol, Gulic and Mul tried to develop the basic fuctions of management with particular emphasis on coordination of resources. Fuyol was concerned with training of managers in order to improve the output. Taylor looked at administration efficiency. Administration should emphasize at drawing charts, showing precise ways in which various divisions were located. They were interested in timetable and schedules to reduce conflicts.

Beurocratic theory – was developed by Max Weber and was based on hierarchy of authority. He emphasized that rules and regulations must be obeyed if the organization must function effectively. The main focus of this theory was on the role and not the individual in an organization.
