This theory was developed by Mary Perker Follett. She observed that the central problem of the organization is to maintain a dynamic and harmonious human relationship.
She developed fundamental principles that should be applied by the management;
- There should be coordination by direct contact with the people responsible.
- Coordination in early stages are very important to set workers on motion.
- Coordination should be seen as a way in which we get new ideas from our staff.
- Coordination should be viewed as a continuing process.
She commanded that one cannot learn from experience unless he/she observes experience, records experience and relates the experience to the total situation.
In her view, the manager should not try to adjust to the situation nor to the behavior of the worker but should be in agreement with what is relevant for the organization.
Critical appraisal of human relations approach.
- The approach has generated an awareness of significance of human resource in an organization.
- Motivation, leadership, group dynamics, work design and participation constitutes the care of the human as a social organization subject to activities and cultural environment of the people.
- The approach however over-stressed the human factor in the organization, thus management is wider than human hence to make them work other techniques or measure have to the applied.
