These are drugs that distort perceptions evoking vivid images without sensory input e.g. marijuana, I.S.D. (lysergic acid diethylamide), phencyclidine (P.C.P.) and psilocybin.
- They affect emotions varying from euphoria to detachment to panic
- Causes visual hallucinations
- Sense of oneness and timelessness
- Seemingly mystical insights
The hallucinations move from simple geometric forms to more meaningful images replaying past experiences to dream like scenes, feeling separated from the body.
a) Marijuana: these are leaves and flowers of hemp plant. Can be smoked or eaten as food. Effects may include:
- Impairs motor and perceptual skills
- Relaxes – it inhibits and may produce euphonic high
- Amplifies colors, sounds, smells, and tastes sensitivity
- Reduces reaction time
- Impairs judgment and memory
- Causes impotent and damages lungs
b) Phencyclidine (P.C.P.)
This causes fear, depersonalization, aggression, violence
c) Psilocybin: is associated with mystical states of consciousness
