We live for a comparatively long period and we live in environments that are constantly changing. To survive in these environments we must adapt. Adaptation is the process of changing behavior to fit changing circumstances. Learning is an adaptive process because it enhances our ability to change.
Learning can be seen as a change in behavior as a result of experience. This change, however, must be relatively permanent. (Feldman, 1987).
