A concept is a mental grouping of similar objects, events, ideas or people. The rationality is our ability to form and use concepts. Concepts enable us to respond to events appropriately and store in memory in a more organized way.
How do we form concept?
- Logically and what we get is logical concepts. These are formed by identifying the specific pictures processed by all members of the concepts.
- Natural concept – this is a concept that is typically formed through everyday experiences whose members may possess some but not all common features. It is usually formed through everyday encounters (experience) e.g. Love guilt, personality, aggression
Natural concept is therefore based on prototypes – this is the best representative of a concept. The more similarities there is between an example and a prototype the more likely we are to consider the example to a member.
