It is a momentary sensory memory of visual stimuli, a photographic or picture image of memory lasting no more than a second

Exercise: to experience iconic memory, close your eyes for a minute. Near the end of the minute hold your hand about a foot in front of your eyes. Then blink ounce and keep your eyes closed. You should see the image of your hand which fides away within a second (Ellis, 1987). Most of the research carried out on iconic memory has been done by Harvard University doctorial students named George Sperling (1960)
