a) According to Amold (1960) Emotions are the felt tendency towards anything intuitively appraised as good or beneficial or away from anything intuitively appraised as bad or harmful. (Good or harmful). These attractions or aversions are accompanied by patterns of psychological changes organised towards approach or withdrawal. The pattern differs for different emotions.
b) The word emotion is derived from a Latin word ‘Emovere’ which means to move out. Literally emotion means to move out to probably safety from harm or towards a need. Therefore emotions can help us to move out of a situation that could be frustrating hurting or threatening. Positive emotions e.g. love draw us towards others other than moving out.
Emotions color our world. They give meaning to our lives. In times of stress they can disrupt your life or save it. Human beings are always expressing fear, anger, sadness, joy and love. Their emotional state has alerted them to the fact that something in their life is wrong or very unsatisfactory and they have consequently sought or accepted help in order to alleviate the distress.
