It is a disguised form of fear. Other words to describe anger are upset, disappointed, annoyed, and bitter, confused, hurt, enraged, bored etc.
Causes
- Obstacle that need fulfillment.
- When one interferes with one own need of fulfillment.
Types of anger
i. Self-anger: This is anger to one self.
ii. Other-anger: Anger towards others.
Manifestations of anger
- Depression.
- Addictive behavior.
- Avoidance of people or places.
- Degrading behavior.
- Martyrdom.
Counselling implications
- Help the clients articulate their anger i.e. define it and specify it.
- Help them express it.
- Help them acquire anger management skills.
- Help them use anger for positive outcome.
- Help them to be aware of transferences and work through it.
Anger control techniques
- Reconcile with oneself.
- Avoid anger arousing situations and people.
- Learn to re-evaluate situations.
- Build self-esteem.
- Learn to confront.
- Have spiritual control.
- Have a variety of displacement safer objects e.g. singing.
