- Physical discomfort and muscular pain. Often trapped emotions lead to chronic problems sometimes thorough release of blocked emotions can lead to a feeling of muscular and improved physical appearance. Trapped emotions are sometimes visible in the way the clients hold themselves. A skilled counsellor can notice it.
- Difficulty in decision-making. This is a frequent side effect of bottling up of emotions. It is as if emotions make someone unease and this leads to loose confidence. It makes it difficult to rely on their resources and decision-making is difficult.
- Faulty self-image. One has unpleasant habit on turning against us i.e. instead of addressing anger towards others we turn it towards ourselves and feel depressed.
- Setting unrealistic goals. Tension can lead to further tension. It can lead us to set unreachable goals.
- Development of long-term beliefs. Sometimes emotions that have been bottled up for a long time can lead a person’s view of the world as being colored in a particular way (learn that people can not be trusted and always let you down in the end). It is as though old painful feelings lead to distortions that become part of that person’s world of view.
- The last straw syndrome. Sometimes emotions are bottled up and the value of the person blows-up. This can be elicited literally or verbally therefore leading to suicidal. We have experienced the problems of storing up emotions and taking out on others. Something or someone else now replaces the original object of our anger.
