- Giving permission. Allow them to express themselves about what they are feeling.
- Literal description. This helps the client describe the original situation that aroused the emotions.
- Locating and developing a feeling in terms of the body. It is important for the client to state the particular part of the body.
- Empty chair technique. It is used when there is unfinished business or when a person is dead, aged, or in a broken relationship e.g. a loved one etc.
- Contradiction/discrepancy. Removing any mask or façades that the client has. It is bringing the client’s discrepancy to their awareness.
- Mobilization of body energy. When the client is anxious it helps to relax them by telling them to take a deep breath or doing body exercise.
- Exploration of fantasies. This is an imaginary journey e.g. journey of happiness e.g. a nice outing etc.
- Rehearsals. This is used in case a client has a lot of anxiety e.g. when attending an interview etc.
