We will first react the iron metal with the dillute hydrochloric acid to give us iron(II)chloride and hydrogen gas. We will then react the iron(II)chloride with sodium carbonate. The reaction will give us iron(II)carbonate and sodium carbonate as products. Since iron(II)carbonate is an insoluble salt while sodium chloride is a soluble, we separate them through filtration. The green residue that remains is our iron(II)carbonate.
