(ii) Are highly regimental making it difficult for the handicapped child to gain autonomy and self-direction.

(iii) Segregate the child from the environment in which he/she may be required to function later in life.

(iv) Are seen as dumping grounds for severely disabled persons (who are rejected by their families).
