1. Forcing/Competition (win-lose situation) In this approach, on of the parties pushes their own views on the others which, of course, will cause overt or covert resistance.

2. Smoothing This approach emphasizes the areas of agreement and common goals and de-emphasizing the disagreements.

3. Avoidance (lose-lose situation)
This is an interpersonal approach in which the individuals seek to avoid the situation that is causing the conflict.

4. Compromise (win-win situation) This is a traditional means of conflict resolution which involves agreeing in part with the other person’s view or demand.

5. Integration This is another way of coping with conflicts which involves making structural changes i.e. modifying and integrating the objectives of groups with different viewpoints. This might require the changing of the organizational structure and clarifying of authority-responsibility relationships.
