(i) Wars/ conflicts.
Children especially boys used as soldiers can expose themselves to HIV infection.

(ii) Displacement.
Children displaced from their houses and settled in common camps can be easily be taken advantage of.

(iii) Poverty.
Children are open to exploitation when looking for means of livelihood for example, living on street and begging.

(iv) Drug abuse.
Children use drugs to escape from the realities of life making them vulnerable to exploitation/ sharing of needles while using injectable drugs leading to infection.

(v) Child labour.
Children are taken advantage of when working to make a livelihood for example, doing manual labour, working in stressful and dangerous circumstances like mining, factories and baby sitting.

(vi) Cultural practice.
Where female genital mutilation is practised, sharing of razors, knives among the initiates exposes the child to HIV infection and use of children especially girls (virgins) as means of curing AIDS.
