(i) Child find.
Refers to the ways of finding young children with learning disabilities in the community.
It emphasizes making initial contact and increasing the public awareness of services available for such children.

(ii) Screening.
Attempts to identify children who needs further investigation.

(iii) Diagnosis.
A detailed assessment which aims at establishing the extent and sometimes the cause of special need and/ or disability.
It may provide some suggestions for example, determining whether the child's problems warrants special education services.

(iv) Evaluation.
It is the process of making judgement if the child should remain in a social programme or plan a transition process to another such as vocational training on return to regular programme.
