(i) Moses prepared for a special ceremony to seal the covenant.

(ii) He built an altar at the foot of Mt Sinai and set up 12 stones to represent the 12 tribes of Israel.

(iii) Young men sacrificed oxen as fellowship offerings.

(iv) Moses took half of the blood of the animals and put it in basins.

(v) Half of the blood was sprinkled on to the altar, the place of meeting with God.

(vi) Moses then read the Book of the covenant to the Israelites.

(vii) Moses took the blood in the basin and sprinkled it on the people.

(viii) Moses told the people that the blood had sealed the covenant.
