Missionary work in Kenya started in 1844 when a missionary known as Ludwig Krapf arrived in Zanzibar
He was sent by the church missionary service and was supported by Seyyid Said. He began his work among the coastal people since they were friendly

The second group to arrive in Ukambani was the African inland mission from the United States who established their first station at Nzau.
