(a) This also called “Pure” or “Fundamental “research. It is interested in deriving/increase of knowledge. It results in fuller understanding of the subject matter under study and the generalization of theories. In basic research the primary aim of the investigator is not to produce data for practical use but to enhance the understanding of the subject matter.

(b) (i) It attempts to describe the status of things.

(ii) It does not provide results for immediate practical use.

(iii) Is pure research that claims at gathering information used for making generalizations/ theories.

(iv) Aims at making certain conclusion facing a concrete problem.

(v) Usually directed towards finding information that has a broad base of application thus adds value to already existing body of knowledge.
