(i) The Old Testament prophets received their message from God, whereas some traditional African prophets received their message from the spirits and ancestors.

(ii) While in some traditional African communities the prophetic office could be hereditary, in the Old Testament it was not hereditary.

(iii) In traditional African communities, the prophets were mostly concerned with solving individual and local community crises, whereas Old Testament prophets dealt with national and international issues and at times went to other nations and pointed towards universal salvation.

(iv) The Old Testament prophets were rejected by their own people but the traditional African ones were liked and respected by their community members.

(v) The prophecies of the Old Testament were recorded and preserved in written form whereas the traditional African prophecies have been preserved orally.
