Economic decline: there was economic decline because the young and the able were taken away, leaving the weak and the old. The decline was hastened by the increased insecurity that discouraged economic activities like trade and agriculture
Destruction of property: slave raiding involved destruction of property, villages were burnt down and left in ruins
Decline in traditional industries: during the trade, African developed a taste for European goods such as rum, clothes and glassware at the expense of local ones leading to the decline of traditional ones
Decline of Trans-Saharan trade: the Trans-Saharan trade declined as goods were diverted towards the West African coast where they were exported overseas
Depopulation: this was caused by the capture and taking away of Africans into slavery in America. Many other Africans were killed during slave trade or died away on their way to America. It was estimated that over 20 million Africans were taken away from Africa
