The crooked wall was being checked by a plumb-line.
This symbolized the crooked ways of the people of Israel.
Amos remained silent because the people had become too sinful to be corrected.

This showed the end of a fruit season.
It symbolized that the season of waiting for the nation to change was over.
Israel was now ripe for God's punishment.

(v) The Lord standing by the altar.
The Lord was commanding the destruction of the Temple.
This was because it had become a centre for evil activities.
