Contribution of Africans: leading Africans actively campaigned against slave trade. In 1526, King Nzinga Mbembe of Congo wrote a letter to the king of Portugal requesting him to stop his men from buying slaves in Congo. Olaudah Equiano, a former slave published a book addressed to the British parliament after buying his freedom in 1789. In the book, he attacked the slave trade between 1807 and 1830, slave trade was abolished. With the abolition, the triangular trade declined
