The desert conditions were harsh, very high temperature during the day and very low temperature during the night. This made the journey uncomfortable
Building of sandstorms hampered the progress of the caravans
The caravans were always in danger of being attacked by desert creatures
The routes in the desert changed often and so the caravans would easily get lost and delayed
