1. Premise Control-
The departure point for this is that every strategy is based on certain planning premises which comprise of various assumptions or predictions. Premise Control is thus designed to check systematically and continuously whether such premises on which the strategy is based remain valid. If it is discovered that a vital premise is no longer valid then it may be appropriate to revise the strategy.

2. Implementation Control-
This mainly relates to implementation. Strategy implementation is normally undertaken in the form of a series of steps, programs, investments and other activities that are undertaken over an extended period. In essence, managers implement a strategy by converting broad plans into concrete, incremental actions and results of specific units and individuals. It is normally designed to assess whether the overall strategy should be changed in light of the results associated with incremental actions that implement the overall strategy.

3. Strategic Surveillance-
By their nature, premise Control and implementation Control are focused Control mechanisms. However, strategic Surveillance is unfocused and is designed to monitor a broad range of events inside and outside the organization that are likely to affect the course of its strategy.

4. Special Alert Control-
It involves a thorough, and often rapid, reconsideration of the organization's strategy because of a sudden, unexpected event such as sudden change in regulation, abrupt exit or entry into the industry of a leading competitor, etc.
