(i) State the property of the liquid (oil) that makes its more suitable than a gas for use as a brake fluid.
(ii) Explain how the system works starting from when the driver presses the foot pedal.

(i) Oil is incompressible.
(ii) When the driver steps on the foot pedal, the force is transmitted through the lever system to the piston in the master cylinder.
- Pressure produced in the master cylinder is transmitted equally through the fluid to the slave cylinder where the pistons are pushed out.
- The pistons in turn push brake shoe outwards making the brake pads press on the rotating wheel causing it toshow down.
