The narrator and five other children;Basta,Chipo, Godknows,Sbho and Stina,have sneaked out of their home in the slums where they call 'Paradise'.They are going to the Budapest,the Posh suburbs of the town to steal guavas.Their parents and guardians do not bother about them and the neighbors are also busy.It is their habits to sneak into different streets and steal guavas.Chipo who is ten years old,is pregnant after being raped by her grandfather,who has been detained.They get awed by the quietness of Budapest;it has big houses fenced and with big gates locked and hardly and hardly anyone walking about.A woman ,33 years old,from London approaches them and wonders how they sustain the scotching heat under the sun.They talk for a while and the children admire the lady and wonders and wonders how different she is from them.The lady asks them their ages,the narrator and Godknows are 9 years old,Basta is eleven while Sbho is eight.No one knows how old Stina ,who rarely speaks is.The lady tells them to take photo's with her and she tells them.."cheese" as they take photos and the rest follow her while running.They compare and contrast their shanty and Budapest. Sbho believes that one day,she will live in a posh house in Budapest but her friends wonder how she will make it.She believes that he will go out of the country,make money and buy a house in Budapest or Los Angeles or Even Paris. Chipo,who dropped out of school,tells her friends that her teacher ,Mr Gono,told them that they need education to make money.The narrator has a dream of going to the USA to stay with her aunt,Fostalina. Basta has a dream of going to South Africa or Bostwana. He does not want to travel by air,and he also says America is far.A truck come o collect them from their shanty.They are taken to a correction centre where they live a good life and acquire education.They have hopes that they will finally achieve their dreams.
