The Religion that is practised in Majdy's community is Islam. This is clearly seen when he passes his secondary education, his father slaughter a sheep and gives it to the beggars who sleep outside the nearby mosque. The mother too offers incense so that no body will have evil intentions to her son."...she is protecting the boy against any evils..."

Samra,Majdy's wife, arrives in London and the first thing that she asks for is the Qibla and Ka'ba. These are important things that every Muslim need to know and have as well. She is disappointed at the discovery that her husband does not have them. This is an indicator that Majdy had not prayed for the whole year he had been in London. To make it up for her,he buys her items when they go for an outing.

Religion is considered important aspect of their lives as portrayed by Samra. She observes their religious ritual. She prays five times a day.To her,Religion offers her grace, protection and guidance. She sees it as a personal relationship with one's maker and that is why she does not force her husband into it when she realizes that he is reluctant.

She finds fulfillment in her religion and observes her prayer calendar strictly. To people like Majdy who grew up observing the religious practices but then later disconnects from it completely. He argues that praying is a distraction,an interruption and most of all because of the changing times that follows the movement of the sun rather than the hand of the clock, praying is convenient. He finds it a bother because he has lots of things to do as far as academic life is concerned. When his wife asks him to pray he gets annoyed and tells her not to nag him.The observation of prayer rituals is one of the things he considered backwards that only happened in Khartoum. He finds that fulfillment in his studies.
