- Pricking out- Overcrowded seedlings are removed and transferred to a seedlings nursery.
- Pest/ disease control- Done early and continuous through application of an appropriated pesticide or fungicide.
- Top dressing- nitrogen fertilizer may be applied to encourage growth of healthy foliage.
- Hardening off- Prepares seedling as to adopt to harsh ecological conditions prevailing in the field.
