Government policies: the first independent government of India embarked on policies to modernize the economy and expand established factories by establishment of heavy machinery industries
Five year plans: the independent government formulated five year plans to boost her industries. India successfully implemented her five year programs to achieve industrial development
Foreign policy: India adopted a unique foreign policy on industrialization. In her fourth five year plan, she worked on details on how foreigners would be encouraged to invest their capital in India without repatriating profits back. This encouraged investors from Britain, the Soviet Union and the USA
High population: the large population provided a large market and an adequate supply of labor for industrial products
