Explain one demerit of transpiration in plants

-Excessive transpiration results in wilting with reduced exposure to light and low photosynthesis, dehydration, increased osmotic pressure and pH fluctuations etc that interfere with metabolic reactions hence death of the plant; as rate of water uptake is lower than rate of water loss by transpiration.
Decreased photosynthesis since water is a raw material for the process -Water stress promotes production of abscisic acid; which hinders several plant processes and promotes abscission of leaves, flowers and fruits. -Wastage of Energy: Since 98-99% of absorbed water is lost through transpiration, the energy used in absorption and conduction of water goes waste.
