Hardwater deposits the insoluble Ca2+ and Mg2+ carbonate / CaCO3(s) and MgCO3(s) on the pipes which prevents lead from dissolving into the water.Soft water is in direct contact with lead and therefore dissolves the lead leading to lead poisoning
